I have had this player since christmas and not one problem!.I have updated the firm ware 2 times no problem, blurays work great and so does the live streaming.I have watched about 30 movies and not once did it freeze, this blu-ray player rocks!...p.s if your t.v is not 1080i blurays will not work good at all.

5 out of 5 stars Have Two of them and Pleased   July 11, 2010

The only word of caution is that I suggest updating the firmware by downloading the file from Samsung's site to a USB stick formatted using fat16 or fat32. Trying to update over the air is risky and can cause the unit to be bricked if there's a glitch during the upgrade process.

1 out of 5 stars WORTHLESS player from TERRIBLE company!   July 9, 2010

How I with I could give this player AND Samsung negative stars! I warn you, NEVER, EVER buy not only this pile of cr*p BD-P1590, but ANYTHING from Samsung. I've had several horrible tech support and customer service experiences from Samsung over the last few years, but this one has pushed me over the edge.

Bought the unit at Xmas last year. Seemed to work ok, we have not used it much. Connected to a Samsung 32" LCD TV. Recently purchased Avatar on Blu-ray, sat down to enjoy it. When we loaded the disk it complained it used the "latest technology" and our player might have a problem, but after chugging a while it finally loaded. We watched for about an hour, then we needed to do some other things, so we stopped the movie and turned off the player. When we tried to watch again, this time after the complaint that the movie might not play, and the system displayed a dire warning about needing a firmware upgrade.

So, I innocently went to the Samsung site, found a new firmware upgrade from May 31, 2010. (BEv2.09_100519_BDP1600_XAA.RUF) Used the USB method to do the upgrade. All seemed to go well, and it chugged through the various steps. But, it never finished, just stayed stuck for three hours on the "do not power off" step 3. Finally I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in, but as expected, it is a brick now. I then looked on line, and see that many, many people have had the same exact problem!

Phone calls and chat with Samsung tech support reminded me how pathetic and unhelpful they are. Essentially, because I am past the 3-month "labor" portion of the warranty, I will need to pay MORE than the purchase price of ~ $120.00 to get this steaming pile of fecal matter fixed. No matter that their firmware upgrade killed it, they could care less - I am SOL.

Tomorrow I will try to sweet-talk Walmart into letting me return it - sometimes they are cool.

I will never, ever, EVER touch another Samsung product. I urge everyone to STAY AWAY - FAR AWAY from Samsung. I've been burned by their phones, their MP3 players, and now this. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me four times - shame on ME."

1 out of 5 stars Firmware upgrade can kill the unit!   July 9, 2010

I don't often pan a product or a company, but I am obligated to warn the public about this.

Bought the unit at Xmas last year. Seemed to work ok, we have not used it much. Connected to a Samsung 32" LCD TV. Just purchased Avatar on Blu-ray, sat down to enjoy it. When we loaded the disk it complained it used the "latest technology" and our player might have a problem, but after chugging a while it finally loaded. Finally I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in, but as expected, it is a brick now. I then looked on line, and see that many, many people have had the same exact problem!

Although Samsung has agreed to fix (or replace) my unit free, and even pay for shipping, I'm really tired of Samsung quality problems and hours on hold with Samsung tech support.

1 out of 5 stars Samsung not what it used to be   June 24, 2010

I have used this player for half a year. Now the it won't respond to the remote anymore. Any input from the remote shuts the player down - regardless of what function was chosen. If you are in the market for a blu ray player check the warranty of the various manufacturers. Customarily manufacturers give 1 year on parts and labor. Samsung gives one year on parts, but only 90 days on labor. This means Samsung does not trust their own product enough to give you a decent warranty. So why should you? Go with Panasonic, which makes superior products with a one year warranty and at least the same functionality. Samsung ain't what it used to be.
