A great value July 14, 2010 Donald E. Fowler (New Bern, NC) Picked up this unit on sale at WalMart for $83.00 for our beach house. Easy setup and quick disc read. Picture and sound quality are almost as good as
my top of the line Sony I have at home. This Magnavox unit is a great value, and
comparable to units costing twice as much!
No frills..but it works for me July 11, 2010 Pianoman88 I received this as a 2009 Christmas present. They got it for probably $78 at Wal-Mart. I'm glad they gave it to me though, as I've had no problems with mine. I have it hooked up to a 46 inch Toshiba LCD 1080p TV, with an inexpensive HDMI cable, and the picture is just incredible. My player evens plays DVD-Rs that I recorded on a Panasonic DVD recorder, that my two Panasonic DVD recorders and laptop have problems playing (freeze ups)! But, they play fine on this blu ray player. Also, it played Avatar (even though the load time was very long), while my Insignia DVD/streaming player had some problems with it - and I understand some older players have problems playing Avatar. I'd give it 5 stars, but since it's a very basic BR player, I only gave it 4. Now granted, I don't watch a lot of DVDs, and this unit probably doesn't load as fast as others. But, it hasn't failed me yet! And, what can you expect for $78. I'd like to get another one!
Waste of Money July 8, 2010 Suzanne This was my first Blu-Ray player. I bought this player in January, 2010 at Wal-Mart with minimal to moderate use. By June the player stopped working, warranty for parts is 1 year but labor warranty is for 90 days. They want at LEAST $60 for labor. This player now costs about $78 new at Wal-Mart. My experience with their customer service was also a 1 star, half if I could choose it. My opinion is this player NB500MG1F a waste of money and I will NEVER buy from Magnavox again - 6 months worth of use for a product - ridiculous!
Waste of time and money June 19, 2010 C. Reich (Heidelberg, Germany) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You are supposed to be able to take this player out of the box and just plug it in. The picture looked great once it finally loaded. However, there was no sound at all. I won't be buying another one of these Magnavox players again ever. I am sticking with Panasonic.
First Blu-Ray player, no complaints June 13, 2010 Shimmy Pilates (United States) I was looking for a better HD source for my newly purchased HDTV and this baby fit the bill. I was initially wary of purchasing this, as many who are "in the know" wouldn't touch this Wal-Mart special with a ten foot pole, but I'm glad I didn't think myself out of it. I just could not be happier with this player. I watched Saving Private Ryan and constantly remarked on how great it looked (it really did). It has seriously given me a greater opinion of my television. As for perks and specs, I couldn't comment, but if you're in the market and not looking to break the bank to get a great picture, go for it.
