not too happy with BD550 July 28, 2010 R. Workman (Greenville, SC) I'm an LG fan - have two LG TV's and a BD370 that I am real pleased with. Got the BD550 to work on TV 1 and move the older BD370 to TV2. Unit ships with 1080i as the default resolution, and when it is changed to 1080p the display pops, flashes and eventually the unit powers off. 1080p with the older BD370 works fine on TV1, but not with the BD550, so I know it's not a TV or cable problem. LG customer service suggested I leave it at 720p, but no thanks, I want a machine that dos what it says it will do.
Excellent Blu-Ray with Streaming July 28, 2010 DT After researching the various blu-ray players that can stream from the internet I decided based on the price and the features to try the LGBD550 for my first blu-ray player. I was not disappointed and the setup was a breeze. Connected an HDMI cable, the audio cables to my old surround sound system, and a connection to my network. I was online in minutes streaming movies and haven't looked back. I will be looking for a A/V surround sound system next so I can experience the full range of the LG's audio abilities via HDMI cable. Thus the reason I could only award 4 stars, the 4 stars for the ease of use was because I felt a little more documentations would have cleared up how to actually utilize the free trial for Netflix. It wasn't clear at first what the code number shown on the TV was used for until you completed signing up and realize that it wasn't a code for the free trial but to identify the player with Netflix's system. Outstanding system would recommend it to a friend without hesitation.
Compatibility or quality issues July 28, 2010 ironwood 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the LG BD550 player because of its good reviews and the price. When I hooked it up via a HDMI cable to my 1 1/2 year old Samsung LN46A650 LCD HD TV, it worked fine in the default 1080i mode. However when I switched the player to its 1080p mode, the screen would go blank for about 2 seconds every 30-60 seconds continually, regardless of whether I was in set up mode or playing a Bluray or DVD disk. I return it and got another unit, hoping it was a quality issue with the 1st unit. The 2nd unit again was fine in 1080i, but this time, when I switched it to 1080p, the screen would go blank and stay blank. If I switched it back to 1080i (by remembering the button sequence), the picture came back on just fine. Since I wanted a 1080p player, not a 1080i player, I returned it and got a Sony BDP-S570 player. This player worked just fine in 1080p mode. I don't know if I got two bad units (perhaps a bad batch at the same store) or if there was a compatibility issue with my Samsung TV. I wished the LG had worked since it was considerably cheaper and I like its user interface better than the Sony's, despite LG's floating ice cube icons.
Great Blu-ray July 24, 2010 Bradley (Rhodel Island) We have had this for about a month and so far it works great. The picture is outstanding and the sound is great. It is responsive and easy to use. we have an LG tv also and when we turn on the DVD player it automatically turns the tv on, great feature. Our 7 year old even knows how to work it. It works better than the Toshiba blu-ray we have. We recommend it and for the price it is hard to pass up.
Great product for a great price. July 22, 2010 Matt I looked for quite awhile for a quality Blu Ray player that had Netflix and Pandora. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It loads quickly and was easy to install and the picture is fantastic.
